Artist Statement

I am a formally trained artist whose creative medium is clay. I work from my home studio in the community of Chiltern.

Previous nursing work and continuing study of Buddhist philosophy inform my arts practice.

This practice is built on a search for subjective qualities of quiet beauty within utilitarian objects. It is based on the concept of function and the use of objects to provide sustenance in daily life.

Porcelain is my material of choice but I also explore earthy clays that allow the glazes to interact with the clay. I experiment and test the glaze components to arrive at the colour and surface that best suits the work.

I also make installations of geometric forms, which, arranged as spontaneous constructions, allow an exploration of change and impermanence. These remind me of childhood play.

At Present I am exploring the form and function of the bell.
